Introduction The following pages provide MP3 quality recordings of various local bands where I have been a member - including some sample tracks of a live performance of the latest venture the Minnesota Soda Boys - a rock harmony duo based in Norfolk where I play with the American singer/songwriter and master slide guitar player Dave Morrison.

4heads A college band - well really people from several bands playing at Norwich Training College, Keswich
Hall, Norwich, UK between 1963 and 1968 that reformed in 1994 to celebrate my 50th and continued to play until 2004.. The tracks below are taken from the final and only CD recording we made - the band is - from L to R John Knowles (guitar/vocals), Rob Jackson (bass/vocals), Tony Blake (guitar/vocals) and Neil Beacock (guitar/vocals).

The band has played all over Norwich,
Norfolk and Suffolk. It was formed from members
of "Johnny
Zero and the Countdowns", "The Bill of Rights"
and a later reincarnation "The Bill of Rights Blues Brass".
They played together on only a few occasions before leaving to
become teachers. They played on the same bill as Manfred
Mann, The Kinks, Ten Years After, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky etc. At
the time they played all over Norwich and in particular at the
Norwich Rag Barbecues in Earlham Park. Since then individuals have
played in various Norfolk bands, duos and for shows and concerts. The rebirth of interest in sixties music over the last
decade meant that they were in popular
demand.
Tracks recorded by the band:
Nadine - Won't Back Down - Georgia Rae - Come Up And See Me
Proud Mary - Just Seventeen - Hi Heeled Sneakers - Lucille - Mustang Sally
Why the 4 heads? All of the members of the band are or were headteachers of local middle schools. The band was known for its strong versions of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cockney Rebel and John Hiatt songs. A great band that really enjoyed the fun of playing together. They were very popular at parties and private dos and even had an article published about them by the Daily Telegraph!
Tucker's Torpedoes In 2001 John joined Tucker's Torpedoes a powerful Blues band that had previously featured Giles as its outstanding singer/performer. The band used original material crafted by the Keyboard and Sax player Pete Davidson. His prodigious talent produced a six track album that has been played all over the country at various Uni bars and clubs. These tracks are a unique expression of Pete's quirky, personal take
on life and have an infectious beat. Enjoy...!
Drunk - Easy Meat - Low Life - Hophead - Creep - Cookin' For You Baby
One of the most enjoyable musical experiences I have ever had playing original material with expert musicians. Sadly they are no more and are unlikely to ever reform even for a reuniuon gig. Maybe at some time we might do it!
